The good news first

Why Canada is one of the more straightforward routes from India

Compared with the US, the UK, the EU or Australia, Canada keeps things simple for families relocating their own pet. Here's what you don't have to worry about.

No rabies titer

Canada asks for a valid rabies vaccination certificate — not a blood-antibody titer. That removes the single longest delay on routes like the US, EU and Australia.

No quarantine

Personal pet dogs aren't held in quarantine on arrival. Your pet is inspected at the border and goes home with you.

No import permit

Canada doesn't require an import permit for personal pet dogs — no licence to wait on before you can book a flight.

Clear at any airport

Unlike the US, there's no registered-facility rule. Your pet can arrive at any Canadian airport that works for your route.

Where we earn our keep

Two things still need to be done right — making sure your pet travels in the personal-pet category, and booking a flight that actually carries pets to Canada. That's the part we manage for you.

For dogs

Bringing your dog from India to Canada

Lighter than most major routes. For an adult dog, the path is short and document-driven — here's how it runs.

1

ISO microchip

A 15-digit ISO microchip, read and recorded before anything else, ties every document to your dog.

2

Valid rabies vaccination

A current rabies vaccination on record. Canada accepts a certificate showing protection valid within three years — no titer test on top of it.

3

India AQCS export

Your AQCS export health certificate and No Objection Certificate, arranged through one of India's seven quarantine airports.

4

Canada's paperwork is light

For an adult dog over eight months, the rabies vaccination certificate is the document Canada checks at the border — there's no separate Canadian import health certificate to obtain on top of your India export papers.

5

Arrival & inspection

You declare your dog to the CBSA, an officer reviews the paperwork and does a quick health check, and your dog goes home — no quarantine.

Bringing a puppy under eight months? Canada uses a separate, slightly stricter path by age — we check the current CFIA rules for your pet before we plan anything.
The one thing to get right

Your pet travels as your personal pet

Because India is on Canada's high-risk list for dog rabies, Canada doesn't allow commercial dog imports from India — dogs brought in for sale, breeding or to be handed to someone else on arrival. That rule doesn't touch your own pet relocating with you or to rejoin you. We keep your documentation cleanly in the personal-pet category so there's no question at the border.

For cats

Bringing your cat from India to Canada

Cats have it easier than dogs on this route — no commercial-import rule, no titer, no quarantine. There's one thing Canada does ask for that catches people who've read US guides: a current rabies vaccination.

No titer · no quarantine · no import permit

What your cat still needs

  • A current rabies vaccination certificate from your vet — for cats three months and older.
  • Your India AQCS export health certificate and NOC.
  • An IATA-compliant travel crate, sized to your cat.
  • A healthy cat that can be inspected on arrival.

If your cat isn't yet vaccinated against rabies, Canada lets it be vaccinated on arrival at your cost — but doing it ahead of time is simpler, and far kinder after a long flight.

The flight, honestly

How your pet actually flies to Canada

The honest airline picture right now

Air India doesn't carry pets to Canada — not in the cabin, not as checked baggage, and its cargo service isn't accepting pets on the ultra-long-haul flights to Canada. Air Canada can carry pets, but not when any leg is operated by a partner airline, and its hold closes to pets when summer temperatures climb above about 29.5°C — which Indian summers regularly do. So "just put them on the direct flight" usually isn't the answer.

The usual path

Manifest cargo via a hub

Most pets fly as manifest cargo on an international carrier — Lufthansa, KLM, British Airways, Qatar or Turkish — connecting through a European or Gulf hub to Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal. They travel in a climate-controlled, pressurised hold and are tracked on an air waybill the whole way.

Limited cases

Air Canada

Where the route, aircraft and season line up — and no leg is on a partner airline — Air Canada is sometimes an option. We only use it when it genuinely works for your pet.

Carrier rules change by route, aircraft and season, so we confirm the live, working option for your cities and dates rather than promising a specific airline.

Timeline

How long India to Canada takes

Weeks, not months. With no titer test in the way, Canada skips the single longest wait — most of the timeline is paperwork and finding the right flight.

2
Weeks 1–2

Timings are typical and depend on your pet's vaccination status. In peak summer, heat embargoes can move travel dates — we plan around them.

Cost

What shapes the cost

There's no honest flat price for a route like this — the figure depends on your pet and the flight. Here's what moves it, so the quote you get is real, not a teaser.

Pet size & crate

Your pet's weight and the IATA crate it needs set the cargo cost more than anything else.

Route & carrier

Which hub and carrier actually carry pets to your Canadian city on your dates.

Cabin vs cargo

Almost always manifest cargo on this route — priced differently from in-cabin travel.

Season & embargoes

Summer heat embargoes can change carriers and timing, which affects the price.

Documentation & vet work

Microchip, vaccinations, AQCS export and certificates, coordinated for you.

Add-ons

Extra pets, special handling or a tighter timeline, priced transparently.

"Duke reached Vancouver and he's doing great. What stood out was how effortless you made the whole thing — pickup right from my doorstep, every bit handled, and I barely had to lift a finger through the entire process."

"Cleo is an extremely anxious cat, and I was sure she'd panic on a flight this long. But weeks ahead, you had me leave her crate open at home with a blanket inside — so by the time she flew, she was genuinely comfortable in it. That advice made all the difference."

Ritika Chopra

"Bravo landed in Toronto safe. I have to thank you for the patience — it was my side that kept changing the dates, since my visa got delayed twice. Not once did you make it a problem; you quietly re-worked everything and kept his paperwork valid each time. Grateful to Sahil and the team."

Questions

India to Canada pet relocation — common questions

Does my pet need a rabies titer test for Canada?
No. Canada accepts a valid rabies vaccination certificate — there's no blood-antibody titer test, unlike the US, EU or Australia. That's what makes this route faster.
Will my pet be quarantined in Canada?
No. Personal pet dogs aren't held in quarantine. Your pet is inspected at the border by a CBSA officer and goes home with you the same day.
Do I need an import permit?
Not for a personal pet dog — Canada doesn't require one. Your pet's rabies vaccination certificate and the India-side export paperwork are what matter.
My cat didn't need rabies for the US — is Canada the same?
No, and this catches people. Canada asks for a current rabies vaccination certificate for cats three months and older. It's the one extra step for cats on this route.
Can my pet fly in the cabin to Canada?
Not on Air India, which doesn't carry pets to Canada at all, and only in narrow cases on Air Canada. Most pets fly as manifest cargo in a climate-controlled, pressurised hold.
Why can't you just book Air India?
Air India isn't carrying pets to Canada right now — not in the cabin, as checked baggage, or as cargo on those ultra-long-haul flights. We book a carrier that actually does.
I've heard Canada banned dog imports from India — is that true?
Only commercial dog imports (for sale, breeding or transfer) from high-risk-rabies countries are barred. Your own pet relocating with you is a personal import and is allowed.
How long does it take?
Usually a few weeks, since there's no titer wait. Paperwork and flight booking set the pace, and summer heat embargoes can shift travel dates.
What documents will my pet need?
An ISO microchip, current rabies vaccination, India AQCS export health certificate and NOC, and a rabies vaccination certificate for Canada. We prepare the full set.
Which cities can you move pets from?
Pets clear through India's seven quarantine airports — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Kochi — and we arrange door-to-door pickup from your city.
