The route at a glance

One of the more straightforward moves out of India

The UAE is well-connected and fast, and — unlike the UK, EU or Australia — there is no long waiting period after the rabies test. There are two things you genuinely can't skip, and two quirks worth checking before you plan.

Accessible & fast

No long wait after the rabies titer — once the lab result is in, your pet is clear to travel. Think weeks, not many months.

Two non-negotiables

A MOCCAE import permit and a rabies antibody titer are both required, because India is a high-risk origin for rabies. We handle both.

A cabin option exists

Small cats and dogs can travel in the cabin with Etihad to Abu Dhabi — the only UAE airline that offers it. Most pets still fly as cargo.

Two things to check before you plan

The UAE bans a long list of dog breeds — including Pit Bull types, all Mastiffs (the Bully Kutta / Indian Mastiff included), Cane Corso, Boerboel, Tibetan Mastiff, Tosa and Presa Canario — with no exceptions. And individuals may import a maximum of two pets per person per year. Tell us your dog's breed early and we'll confirm eligibility before anything else.

For dogs

Your dog's path, step by step

Breed check first — if your dog is on the UAE's banned list, no permit can be issued, so this is where we always start.
1

ISO microchip

A 15-digit ISO chip, implanted before the rabies vaccine — the chip ties every document to your dog.

2

Rabies vaccination

Given after the microchip, from 12 weeks of age.

3

Core vaccinations

Distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and leptospirosis (DHPPiL), up to date.

4

Rabies antibody titer (RNATT)start early

From an approved lab, result at least 0.5 IU/ml. Drawn at least 21 days after a first or lapsed vaccine — immediately if there is a valid booster. The one timed step, but no long wait afterwards.

5

MOCCAE import permit

Applied for through the UAE Ministry portal before travel. We prepare and submit it for you.

6

India AQCS export clearance

Health certificate plus the NOC from Animal Quarantine, at your departure airport.

7

Parasite treatment

Internal and external parasite treatment within 14 days of travel, recorded.

8

Fit-to-fly, crate & flight

Final vet check, an IATA-compliant crate sized to your dog, and the flight to Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

The titer is the one step to begin early — but the moment results are in, you are cleared to travel. There is no three-month wait like the UK or EU, and no quarantine on arrival.
For cats

Bringing a cat

Cats follow the same core chain as dogs — and here is the honest part most pages skip: the UAE applies the rabies titer by country, not by species, so a cat coming from India needs the titer too. The good news: cats have no breed restrictions, and being small, they are the best candidates to fly in the cabin.

No breed restrictions — and the most likely to qualify for in-cabin travel with Etihad to Abu Dhabi (under 8 kg including the carrier).

Cabin or cargo

How your pet flies

The UAE is the one outbound route where the cabin is genuinely on the table — for a small pet, on the right carrier. For everyone else, manifest cargo is the safe, standard path, and it is how most pets travel.

In-cabin · with you

Small pets, via Etihad

  • Cats and small dogs up to 8 kg including the carrier
  • Etihad-operated flights to and from Abu Dhabi only
  • Minimum 16 weeks old; a premium per-segment fee
  • Some Indian cities and breeds are excluded — we confirm yours
Manifest cargo · the standard path

Climate-controlled hold

  • For larger pets, Dubai arrivals, and most carriers
  • Emirates SkyCargo into Dubai; Etihad Cargo; other approved carriers
  • Pressurised, temperature-controlled — the same air as the cabin
  • An IATA crate your pet is comfortable in, sized and acclimatised

The honest airline picture right now

Etihad is the only UAE airline that takes small pets in the cabin, and only to Abu Dhabi. Air India will not carry pets in the cabin on flights from India to the UAE, and Emirates is cargo-only. Snub-nosed breeds are barred from the cargo hold, and summer heat can trigger embargoes. We confirm what is actually possible for your pet, your city and your carrier before you commit to anything.

How long it takes

Weeks, not months

No waiting period after the titer — the UK, EU and Australia all make you wait; the UAE does not.
1

Microchip & vaccines

Chip, rabies and core shots in order.

2

Titer draw & lab

The gating step — about 2–4 weeks for the result.

3

MOCCAE permit

Applied for once the titer is in hand.

4

Export & fit-to-fly

AQCS clearance, parasite treatment, final vet check.

5

Fly & clear

Flight, then same-day clearance at the UAE port.

Why FidoJet →
What it costs

What shapes the cost

There is no flat price for pet relocation — and any company that quotes one before knowing your pet is guessing. Six things move the number, and we itemise all of them.

1

Pet size & breed

Weight sets the crate, and breed decides cabin vs hold eligibility.

2

Cabin vs cargo

The in-cabin option carries a premium fee — a real lever unique to this route.

3

Destination city

Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and the carrier that serves your route best.

4

IATA crate

The right size, bought once and sized to grow into if needed.

5

Vet & lab work

Vaccines, the titer and lab fees — named up front, never a surprise.

6

Season

Summer heat embargoes can shift dates and routing.

"Tuffy reached Dubai and he's totally fine. The thing I was tense about was the heat here, but you put him on an early-morning flight on purpose so he wasn't on the tarmac in peak sun, and even told me to keep him hydrated before pickup. Small things, but they mattered. He's home now, cool and comfy."

"Being a Persian, my biggest worry was Muffin's flat face and how she'd cope breathing on a long flight — I was close to not risking it. You took that seriously: a proper vet fitness check, a crate with extra ventilation, and you talked me through why she'd be okay. Akash had every document ready, and Abu Dhabi cleared without a single query."

"Jerry landed in Dubai safe and sound. What impressed me was the speed — my company relocation got preponed suddenly and I had barely any time, so I thought there was no way to fly a dog out that fast. But Rohan sorted the permit and vet paperwork on a tight timeline, and nothing felt rushed or half-done."

Good to know

India to UAE — your questions

Can my pet fly in the cabin to the UAE?
A small cat or dog can — up to 8 kg including the carrier — but only with Etihad, and only to and from Abu Dhabi. It is the only UAE airline that offers in-cabin pet travel. Some Indian cities and certain breeds are excluded, so most pets still travel as cargo. We confirm whether yours qualifies.
Why does my pet need a rabies titer?
India is classed as a high-risk country for rabies, so the UAE requires a rabies antibody blood test proving the vaccine worked, with a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml from an approved lab. It applies to both dogs and cats.
How long does the whole process take?
Usually weeks rather than months. The titer is the gating step — about two to four weeks for the lab result — and once it is in hand there is no further waiting period before travel, unlike the UK, EU or Australia.
Is there quarantine when my pet arrives?
No quarantine for a compliant pet. Your pet is inspected at the port of entry and released the same day, provided the documents and titer are in order.
Do cats need the rabies titer too?
Yes. The UAE applies the titer based on the country of origin, not the species, so a cat from India needs it just as a dog does. Cats have no breed restrictions, though.
What is the MOCCAE import permit and who arranges it?
It is the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment permit that authorises your pet to enter, applied for before travel. We prepare and submit it for you as part of the service.
How many pets can I bring?
Individuals may import a maximum of two pets per person per year, unless they are resident pets returning to the UAE.
Which dog breeds are banned from entering the UAE?
The UAE bans Pit Bull types, all Mastiffs (including the Bully Kutta or Indian Mastiff), Cane Corso, Boerboel, Tibetan Mastiff, Tosa and Presa Canario, along with their crosses. If your dog is on the list, no permit can be issued, so tell us the breed early.
Which airlines carry pets from India to the UAE?
Etihad takes small pets in the cabin to Abu Dhabi and larger pets as cargo. Emirates carries pets as cargo through SkyCargo into Dubai. Air India does not carry pets in the cabin on flights from India to the UAE. We book the carrier that fits your pet and route.
Which Indian airports can my pet depart from?
Pets can be exported through any of the seven AQCS-equipped airports in India — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Kochi.
